Playing Quake Live for the first time....

Last week I got a Quake Live invite, not really sure how as I've never played before :D (I'm also trying to get BattleField Heroes Beta.... any thoughts on that game?)

Anyway... I hooked up all my shit, cracked out the old Deathadder, fired up my browser and logged in. The first thing I noticed was that there were only 100 odd people online and the servers IN TOTAL only had about 20 people playing... and I was expecting a bloodbath, disappointment. So, after I'd done all of the training stuff with a character that resembled Master Chief from Halo with a sexy voice, I was ready to rock. By the way... I beat her 20-0.... ahh yer!!

I jumped straight into a capture the flag game and soon realised that I was CRAP! I quite literally died every 10 seconds, being killed by people who appeared to be able to not only shoot through walls, but could run seriously fast, fire more bullets than me and collect all of the power ups in succession. I was done for!!! First game 3 kills 56 deaths..... RUBBISH!

Anyway, I happen to be good friends with Jay "2GD"and Sam "Zr0", who are both apparently quite good at Quake. They taught me a few tricks like the timing of items and how to air jump etc etc.... I know what you're thinking, N00b N00b, well I don't care... if you wanna prove your metal against me add me to QLive (macnicoll)

After my training the boys joined my team on a CTF match and we won. We played again and won and again and again.... I was invincible, until I realised that they were killing everyone and i was just the flag runner!!!

Enough.... The game is brilliant and seriously fast with no lag (as far as I can tell) so if you get the chance to play... do it! And if you're rubbish let me know... I might be able to beat you.... probably not though!

Sorry for the ramble.... Laters

Well I've played Q3 for a while now and I'm pretty disappointed with QL. Don't get me wrong here. The problem isn't the infrastructure, it's the game. I think the game resembles too much the very first versions of Q3. It's too much like vq3 to bring anything new to it. If they would only create ALL NEW MAPS from scratch, it would give the game a new breath, new players, all starting from equal from the strat aspect. To appeal to starters, they SERIOUSLY have to work on matchmaking, or else it will fail sooner or later.

Nice blog anyway, it was a good read.

I want a battle.net like experience system for quake live.. then this game will explode. That is basically the whole reason why WC3 did so well as a competitive game, it had a constant influx of lesser players. In quake.. its impossible to start now on a good server for a new player, suddenly they die everywhere.. the skill gap is far to great.

Matchmaking, experience system, new maps, ladders - team, and individual, prizes for those ladders, and they have a game with a small hope of blizzard like popularity.

You've got a second chance with quake live id, don't blow it!
